It is important that you call the school attendance line if your child is going to be absent or away for an appointment.

Ill or Injured at School

When students become ill or injured and are unable to return to class, parents will be contacted and asked to pick up their child within one hour. All students are expected to participate in physical activities indoors and outdoors.

If your child has a disability or injury that prevents participation in activities, please advise the administration.

Life-Threatening Allergies  

At Hidden Valley School, we have a number of children who have severe allergies, especially to peanuts and other nuts. Even the smallest trace of peanuts/nuts, their oily residue, or even just the smell, can quickly cause a life-threatening condition called anaphylactic shock resulting in a life threatening situation.

Although peanuts and nuts represent the most common severe allergy in our school, we also have children with life-threatening allergies to other foods, such as milk, wheat, eggs, fish and sesame. Our staff members are trained regularly in the use of Epinephrine medication (ex. EPI-PENS).

Our goal at Hidden Valley School is to minimize and control accidental exposure through education and effective communication.

If your child has a severe allergy, please inform the school and complete a Student Health Plan supported by Administrative Regulation 6002 - Student Health Services.

Medication

Where prescription medication is to be administered by school staff, this CBE form must be completed. Forms are also available at the school office. Medical information is completed at the beginning of each school year. If your child’s medical condition changes during the year, please update their information at the office and with your child’s teacher. If your child has an Epi-pen or an asthma puffer, we need to be informed.

Student Health Emergency Response Protocol Form

• This form is to be used when there is a student health issue regarding attention. This includes when there is a request to administer medication. 

Student Health Plan

This form is to be:

• completed if a physical or medical condition may affect the student’s attendance at school
• completed if medication is to be taken at school,
• reviewed and updated annually or sooner if there is a change in the student’s health concern or school registration. 

Public Health Nurse

The Community Health Nurse will be responsible for ensuring that teachers know she is available for consultation regarding the health of the students. Community Health Nurses will take referrals on any child who has health problems and continued monitoring will occur. The Community Health Nurse is available for consultation, and as a resource person in the planning, presentation and evaluation of Health Teaching programs.
