Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.
Traffic Safety Reminders from The City of Calgary
The City wants to remind and encourage anyone who is driving children to school to operate their vehicles safely and responsibly. Parents and guardians are reminded not to park where it’s prohibited during drop off and pick up times, such as blocking crosswalks, laneways and private driveways.
Pick up and drop off times can get quite busy. Give yourself extra time to navigate safely around schools, whether you are walking, wheeling, or driving. For those who drive, help alleviate congestion by parking a block or two away and walking in, wherever possible.
Talk to your kids about safe travel practices like using crosswalks with patrols, looking all ways before crossing the street and not jaywalking across the roadways as a shortcut.

Student Drop-Off
The parking lot is for staff use only. For the safety of everyone, please do not use the parking lot or entrance to the parking lot for dropping off or picking up students. Guests and visitors of the school are requested to please use street parking. Please be courteous of our neighbours and do not block their driveways.
The area directly in front of Hidden Valley School is a designated student drop off zone “Hug & Go” for morning drop-off. Please do not park your vehicle in this area. A vehicle may be ticketed by Calgary By-Law officers or CPS if it is left unattended in the Hug & Go zone.
Hug & Go Zone
The Hug and Go area in front of the school is only a drop-off area. Grade 1 to 4 parents can only stay while actively loading or unloading children from the vehicle. You cannot sit in your car idling while you wait for school to start, or leave your vehicle to walk your child to the doors. If you feel your child needs to be walked to the door, please park elsewhere and walk with them. Supervision of students begins at 8:25 AM, so avoid dropping off your children prior to this time. Kindergarten students must be brought to the front door and must be supervised until 8:30AM when the door will open.
Staff Parking Lot Off Limits
For the safety of everyone, do not use the parking lot or entrance to the parking lot for dropping off or picking up students. The parking lot is for staff and CBE employees only. We appreciate your co-operation.
Courtesy Matters
We ask that you avoid parking in front of our neighbours’ driveways when dropping off your children. And please make sure that anyone who picks up or drops off your child is aware of all of the parking rules.
