We have rescheduled Mme Judy's Parent Teacher Conferences to Monday, April 8 from 8:30am - 6:00pm. The Conference Booking System is open to book your conferences on your MyCBE/PowerSchool Account.
Precautions for the Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8
On Monday, April 8 a partial solar eclipse will be visible in Calgary. The solar event will begin just before noon and conclude by 2:00pm, with the maximum coverage occurring at 12:43pm.
We know that this provides a unique learning experience for students and staff in our schools; however, there can be serious impacts to vision as a result of viewing the eclipse in an unsafe manner.
During a solar eclipse, looking directly at the sun is dangerous. Safe viewing of the eclipse requires wearing specialized glasses or watching through a telescope or solar binoculars that have specialized lenses and should only be performed under the direction of a professional. Students will not be viewing the eclipse while at school.
We would like to invite all students to remain at school during the lunch break. Please send a lunch with your child. If students are not participating in educational activities around the event, Hidden Valley School students will be involved in supervised indoor activities during this time.
If you decide that your child will go home for lunch on Monday or if you are picking them up during the afternoon, please meet your child in the school office. It is also important to discuss with your child not to look at the sun to protect their eyes from damage by the solar eclipse.
AM Kindergarten Families: Instead of meeting you outside at 11:30am, we welcome you to come inside the school at the front door and you will be directed to come to your child’s classroom to meet your child for pick up. Doors will be opened for you just before 11:30am.
PM Kindergarten Families: We will not be lining up before entering the school. Doors will be opened at 12:15pm. When you arrive to drop off your child, please bring your child right into the building and drop off at the front door. Children will line up in the hallway once they have removed their outdoor shoes.
Please communicate these changes to your child’s after school dayhome/daycare providers in advance of the eclipse on Monday, April 8.

Volunteers Needed – French student books
HVS has thousands of levelled books. These books were a substantial part of our reading instruction. Over the last couple years, instruction in reading has developed and now incorporates the science of reading. The science of reading focuses on the development of skills, like phonetics, phonology, syntax, and comprehension to enhance literacy instruction and address reading challenges. Relying on leveled texts may not adequately challenge students or provide the necessary complexity to develop advanced comprehension skills. For this reason, we need to remove the levels on these books and use them differently in the classroom. We would really like your help with this. We are inviting any parents/guardians who have a valid Police Clearance Check to come to the school whenever it is convenient. You do not have to confirm your attendance, you can simply come when you can. Thank you to all the volunteers who have already supported us with this project!
