Hello Hidden Valley school families. It’s time to celebrate our winter Carnaval! Throughout the week, we will enjoy many Carnaval activities and authentic learning experiences.

Many of our activities will be outside. Please help your child in dressing for the weather, with snow pants, mitts, tuques and winter jackets.

Carnaval de Hidden Valley - Spirit Days
Tuesday –Tuque Day - Did you know that tuque is a Canadian word that means ‘a close-fitting knitted stocking cap’?  Wear your favourite winter tuque or hat today!

Wednesday - Lumberjack Day- In the 1800s, there were many ‘bûcherons' (lumberjacks) in Quebec. Do you know why? Dress like a lumberjack today (the more plaid the better!).

Thursday - Favourite Winter Sport Day - Carnaval is a time to celebrate all things winter, including sports and games you can play outside. Dress showing your favourite winter sport.

Friday - Snow Bath Day - One of the most popular activities at the Carnaval de Québec is the St-Hubert Snow Bath.  During Carnaval, participants take a snow bath outdoors while wearing a swimsuit and snow boots. Students and staff are invited to wear a mash-up of your favourite summer and winter gear! (No swimsuits, please).

Playground Update from Principal Chastko
Hidden Valley students are incredible, and so are their families! We want to acknowledge the generosity of our school community as we work together to provide students with a new, inclusive playground. Our playground is scheduled to be built this summer!

School Council and Friends of Hidden Valley Society have led several fundraising initiatives, all to the benefit of our new playground. Their "Show the Love" playground donation drive is off to an incredible start! With your support, they’ve had 62 donations so far ranging all the way from 50 cents to $1,300! Thank you to all the students and families who have chipped in to the fund by donating big and small. Every donation makes a difference on the way to our goal and we're over 50% of the way now!

Here are our weekly totals so far:

February Week 1: $753.00
February Week 2: $1,980.00
Total Raised: $2,733.00

Winter Gear Reminder
We have been lending out a lot of snow pants and gloves this week to students who are not bringing them from home. Please make sure that students are bundled up for school – this includes a winter coat, gloves, toques, snow pants and boots. Packing an extra pair of mitts is also a good idea! Please label all items, as many clothing items end up in our lost and found. If labeled, they will be more likely to return home.

Lost and Found
Our lost and found collection is growing.  Parents are invited to come into the front foyer to look through the lost and found items.

Fish in Classroom - Update
Our fish are growing!  Their spines are darkening and their yolk sacks are getting smaller as they eat up their nutrients.
