National Day of Truth and Reconciliation (TRC- Truth and Reconciliation)

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We will be recognizing this day, in a developmentally appropriate way, during the week prior. Hidden Valley School will be closed to students and staff on September 30 in recognition of this day.

The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

Drop off and pick up safety
Thank you to everyone for working together to keep our students safe while picking up and dropping off our students.  We appreciate all the families who are using Crosswalks!

The staff parking lot is not a drop-off or pick-up location for students before, during or after school.  Please share this information with whoever drops off or picks up your child(ren).

HUG N’ GO
The Hug n’ Go area in front of the school is a drop-off area ONLY.  Grade 1 to 4 parents are permitted solely to actively load or unload children from the vehicle.  Our school staff will even open your door to speed up the process.  Please do not leave your vehicle parked in this area. If you feel your child needs to be walked to the door, please park elsewhere and walk with them.  Supervision of students begins at 8:25 AM. Please refrain from dropping off your children before this time.  Kindergarten students must be brought to the front door and must be supervised until 8:30 AM when the door will open, therefore Kindergarten parents are not allowed to use the Hug n’ Go.

Attendance
Regular school attendance has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and in life.

We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. When students miss too much school it can cause them to fall behind academically.  Regular school attendance is an important life skill on the path to graduation and future employment.
