Oki, Tunsai, Danit'ada, Taanishi, Bonjour, and Hello Hidden Valley Families
Message from Mrs. Chastko
Our teachers were thrilled to reconnect with students this week! It has been wonderful to see students quickly settle back into their routines and engage in learning. The focus is on student learning and the core curriculum outcomes. We are confident in our teachers’ professional expertise to guide meaningful instruction while supporting each student’s personalized learning needs.
Upcoming Dates to Remember:
Fall Break
There will be no school from November 8–12, and we look forward to welcoming students back on Thursday, November 13.
Picture Day Update
We have an exciting change to share with families — our Picture Day has been rescheduled! Individual photos will now take place on Thursday, November 20, with retakes on Wednesday, December 10.
We’re thrilled to be partnering with EDGE Imaging this year and can’t wait to capture those big smiles and great memories!
Thank you for your flexibility — we’re looking forward to a fantastic Picture Day!
Time Change Reminder
Don’t forget—Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend! Clocks will “fall back” one hour on Sunday, November 2. Please be sure to adjust your clocks so everyone is on time for school Monday morning.
Reminder: Dress for the Weather!
As the weather turns chilly, please make sure your child comes to school dressed for the colder temperatures. Warm jackets, mittens, and hats help students stay warm during outdoor gym, recess and outdoor lunch - students will continue going outside until it is -20 degrees. Thank you for helping your child prepare for the fall weather!
OurSchool and CBE Survey – Grade 3 & 4 students
Students in Grades 3 and 4 will be participating in a survey designed to help inform decision-making at both the school and system levels. The surveys will be completed in class and are entirely anonymous and confidential. An information letter with further details was emailed to families earlier in October. If you have any concerns, please contact Mr. Trevor tbcassidy@cbe.ab.ca
Lost and Found
Our Lost and Found is bursting at the seams — especially with hoodies! Come claim your child’s long-lost treasures before Thursday, November 6, when everything will be packed up and donated.
Remembrance Day at School
On November 7, our school will be holding a Remembrance Day ceremony to honour the sacrifices made by veterans and active service members who have helped shape our freedoms. This meaningful event will take place during the school day and will include student reflections, music, and moments of silence.
Due to limited space and the number of students attending, we are unfortunately not able to invite families to join us in person this year. We appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure the safety and comfort of all students.
We encourage families to continue discussions at home about the importance of remembrance and the ways we can show gratitude for those who have served and continue to serve.
French as a Second Language in Grades 2, 3, and 4
We are pleased to offer French as a Second Language (FSL) instruction for students in Grades 2, 3, and 4. Learning French provides students with the opportunity to explore Canada’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage while developing communication skills that extend beyond the classroom.
FSL instruction supports the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in French, and encourages students to become more confident, open-minded, and globally aware learners. We are
