Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

We would like to inform you that due to continued growth in Calgary, there is a need to balance enrolment at Calgary Board of Education (CBE) schools. For this reason, there will be changes to Hidden Valley and Valley Creek Schools.

Effective for the 2024-25 school year, the following changes will be implemented:

• Hidden Valley School will change from a kindergarten to Grade 3 configuration to a kindergarten to Grade 4 configuration for both the regular and French Immersion programs.
• Valley Creek School will change from a Grade 4 to Grade 9 configuration to a Grade 5 to Grade 9 configuration for both the regular and French Immersion programs.
• Grade 7 to 9 regular program students residing in the communities of MacEwan Glen and Sandstone Valley will be re-designated from Sir John A. Macdonald School to Valley Creek School. (Map 1) This change will allow students to attend school closer to home.
  • Current Grade 6 and 7 students who will be in Grade 7 or 8 for the 2024-25 school year will be designated to Valley Creek School.
  • Current Grade 8 students who will be in Grade 9 for the 2024-25 school year and currently attending Sir John A. Macdonald School will remain at Sir John A. Macdonald School to complete Grade 9.
  • All new Grade 7 to 9 regular program registrations for the 2024-25 school year will be designated to Valley Creek School.
• Kindergarten to Grade 9 French Immersion program students residing in the communities of Ambleton and 02L will be re-designated from King George School and Georges P. Vanier School to Hidden Valley School (Map 2) and Valley Creek School (Map 3). This change will allow the Ambleton and 02L communities to attend the same schools for French Immersion as they would for the regular program, keeping community cohorts together.
• A cap on enrolment will be implemented for intake into the French Immersion program at Hidden Valley School. The CBE lottery process will be followed if the number of new registrations for French Immersion exceed spaces available. Why is this change happening?

The CBE is experiencing record enrolment growth. To address this, changes are being made to balance enrolment across our schools. These changes will help alleviate current and anticipated enrolment pressures in North Calgary while also uniting community cohorts and allowing students to attend school closer to home. 

How do I register for school next year?

Registrations for the 2024-25 school year starts in January 2024. For more information on how to register, please visit our website.

How will students get to school?
