End of Day Procedures: How Will My Child Get Home?
To help ensure the safety of all students, we ask families to establish a clear and consistent end-of-day routine for their child.
Please keep the following in mind:
1. Have a consistent plan for how your child will get home each day.
2. Limit changes to this routine whenever possible. Consistency helps students and staff ensure a safe and smooth dismissal process.
3. If your child’s end-of-day plans change, please contact the school office at 403-777-7236 during office hours . The office will inform the classroom teacher, who will then communicate the change to your child.
4. Possible examples of changes we need to know about include:
a. Your child will not be taking the bus.
b. A different person will be picking up your child.
c. Your child will be attending an after-school activity or going to another location.
Please note that when a different adult is picking up a child, the school must be aware in advance and will request identification upon arrival.
Each day, our staff work to ensure that more than 580 students get home safely. Even small changes to dismissal routines can have a significant impact on our ability to manage student departures safely and efficiently. We appreciate your support and partnership in helping us keep all students safe at the end of the school day.

Principal Message
This fall, the CBE has hired hundreds of teachers, education assistants, and other school staff to support student learning. These positions have been funded by the Government of Alberta with the intention of addressing classroom complexity and class sizes.
We are pleased to welcome additional new staff to our school for the 2026-27 school year:
Katrina Hegmann – Kindergarten to Grade 5
Taylor Smith – Grade 1 and 2 French Immersion
Kaitlyn Petropoulos – Grade 2 Regular Program
Amy Will – Grade 4 and 5 Regular Program
We are very pleased to welcome these new staff members to our school community! This additional staff will help ensure students benefit from:
- Increased teacher attention
- Improved classroom learning environments
- Greater support for diverse learning needs
Street Construction Update from Principal
The City of Calgary Transportation Engineer recently provided an update on the construction along Hidden Valley Drive. Significant progress has been made on the new curb extensions at three locations near the school. These improvements are designed to enhance safety for students and families by increasing visibility and creating safer crossing areas.
The City has advised that the Hug N' Go area will remain accessible during drop-off and pick-up times. They are also making every effort to limit construction activities to the school side of the street during school hours whenever possible.
As construction continues, we encourage families to allow for extra travel time when arriving at or departing from the school. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as these important safety improvements are completed.
BIKES
Students can ride bikes to school; however, they need to walk them while on school property and lock them in the designated bike rack. Hidden Valley School is not responsible for stolen items.
TRANSPORTATION | Bussing
If you have registered your child for the school bus and have decided not to use the service, please make sure to cancel the service in your MyCBE account.
If your child rides the school bus, it is very important that you contact the school if your child is not going to take the bus home at the end of the day. Please call 403-777-7236 ext. 0
Nut Aware - LIFE-THREATENING ALLERGIES
At Hidden Valley School, we have a number of children and staff who have severe allergies, especially to peanuts and other nuts. Even the smallest trace of peanuts/nuts, their oily residue, or even just the smell, can quickly cause a life-threatening condition called anaphylactic shock resulting in a life-threatening situation.
Although peanuts and nuts represent the most common severe allergy in our school, we also have children with life-threatening allergies to other foods, such as milk, wheat, eggs, fish and sesame. Our staff members are trained regularly in the use of Epinephrine medication (ex. EPI-PENS).
Our goal at Hidden Valley School is to minimize and control accidental exposure through education and effective communication.
Student Health Plan
If your child has any physical or medical condition that may affect their attendance, you will need complete the yearly health forms. Please contact the office for a paper copy of these forms.

BIRTHDAYS
While it may be convenient to hand out birthday invitations at school it can also be upsetting to children who do not receive invitations. We ask parents to exercise discretion and sensitivity regarding birthday invitations.
For health and safety reasons, it is not permitted to send treats such as food, candy, stickers, pencils etc. to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays.
FIRE DRILLS AND LOCKDOWNS
All CBE schools are required to practice Fire Drills and Lockdowns. A Fire Drill is the procedure students would follow to evacuate the building in case of an emergency. A Lockdown is the routine exercised when a potentially dangerous situation arises in or around a school.
For the start of the school year, teachers will discuss these drills with students to help them understand the need for these types of procedures to take place in a calm, quiet and orderly fashion.
HOMEROOM TEACHERS ARE YOUR FIRST CONTACT
I always try to be as available as possible, but please know that your child’s teacher should always be the first point of contact for you and the school. If you have any questions, please start with them as they can then direct you accordingly.
Annual Volunteer Registration Required for All School Volunteers
To ensure the safety and security of CBE students and staff, all volunteers must be registered with the school each school year before participating in volunteer activities.
The Annual Volunteer Registration Form is valid for the current school year only. All volunteers, including returning volunteers, must complete a new registration form each school year before participating in volunteer activities.
Process
Parents and guardians can register as volunteers through the SchoolEngage tab in their MyCBE account. As part of the registration process, all volunteers must review the POPA requirements and sign to indicate their agreement with the conditions outlined in the form.
