Hug and Go – Update
In an effort to improve safety and increase speed of drop off, HVS staff who are supervising the Hug and Go zone can open your vehicle door to allow your Grade 1 – 3 child to get out on their own. Children will need to exit the vehicle on the passenger side. We will begin doing this next week. If you do not want our staff to open your vehicle, please just give us a wave.
HVS School Council Chip Cart is BACK!
To celebrate a great first part of the school year and kick off winter break, School Council will be providing a free bag of chips for every student on Thursday's Spirit Day.
If you do not wish your student to receive this snack item, please contact your student's teacher no later than December 20. The following options will available (including gluten free):
 Lay’s ketchup
 Lay’s classic
 Doritos nacho cheese
 Ruffles all dressed
 Cheetos puffs
CBE Volunteer Clearance
A friendly reminder! If you have recently applied for your CBE Volunteer Clearance online, please remember to share your clearance results with us here in the office to finalize your clearance. Please share to: ebwolff@cbe.ab.ca
Accidents Happen We are running out of spare clothing for students who have an accident while at school. If your child comes home with clothes that we have lent them, please make sure to wash them and return them at your earliest convenience. If you are doing a closet cleanout and have any pants and/or underwear in sizes 5 – 10 that your child has outgrown, we would happily accept any donations.
Lost and Found Items We have set up the lost and found items in the gathering space area outside of the gym. We have asked teachers to walk their classes through the items. Parents are welcome to come in and go through the items as well. We're hoping to get as many "lost" items as possible returned to their proper owners.
VOLUNTERS NEEDED – Student Books
HVS has thousands of levelled books. These books were a substantial part of our reading instruction. Over the last couple years, instruction in reading has developed and now incorporates the science of reading. The science of reading focuses on the development of skills, like phonetics, phonology, syntax, and comprehension to enhance literacy instruction and address reading challenges. Relying on leveled texts may not adequately challenge students or provide the necessary complexity to develop advanced comprehension skills.
We are inviting any parents/guardians who have a valid Police Clearance Check to come to the school whenever it is convenient for you. You do not have to confirm your attendance, you can simply come when you can. Thank you to all the volunteers who have already supported us with this project!
