National Indigenous History Month
June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to learn about the unique cultures, traditions and experiences of First Nations, Métis and Inuit in Canada.

This year's theme, "inspiring our youth for change," aligns with Aboriginal Awareness Week Calgary and the City of Calgary. It aims to empower the next generation of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples to reclaim and instill pride, cultural knowledge, and education in our communities. This can be achieved by being positive role models and continuing our collective journey through Truth and Reconciliation.

Our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and Indigenous Education is year-round. In line with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, CBE is committed to promoting and actioning Education for ReconciliACTION. As we observe National Indigenous History Month and celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, we renew our dedication to learning, celebrating, and honouring Indigenous cultures and resilience. Schools and service units will revisit and share their Truth and Reconciliation Commitments to Action.

Together, we are working to ensure that each Indigenous student experiences improved well-being and achievement and that all students gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indigenous histories and contributions.

Learning Commons Update
Our learning commons transition is ongoing. Many of our bookshelves are set up in the Open Area and Ms. Crutchley is ready for our books to be placed on them again. We anticipate the remaining book shelves installed and furniture moved during the summer. Our library book collection and MakerSpace materials will be accessed by students from this new area, starting in the fall.

Library Books
All library books must be returned to the school this week.  Please make sure to check for any library books that may still be at home.

Student-Led Open House – June 20 as this is an Open House, families do not need to register to attend.

Reminder: students attend with their family Our Student-Led Open House will be an opportunity for students to take the lead on sharing evidence of their learning, sharing their areas of strength and accomplishments, discussing next steps and setting their own learning targets.

As this is an Open House, you are able to attend at anytime between 4:00pm - 5:30pm. Your time at the school can take anywhere from 15 – 30 minutes.  It is an important time to spend with your child.  The teacher will be there to celebrate your child’s learning.  As this is an Open House, teachers will not be able to have individual conversations with parents/guardians regarding their child.  We look forward to seeing you!
