Winter Weather Reminder
When the temperature is –20 or warmer, students will spend time outdoors, each day. Students need to come to school dressed for learning and playing outside. Snow gear, including snow pants, winter boots, winter jacket, mitts and a toque are important. If they do not have winter weather clothing, they may not be able to go outside with their peers.
Volunteer in the Learning Commons
We are looking for help shelving books in the afternoons. If you can give half an hour or more on a semi-regular basis, we would love to have you! Volunteers must have, or will need to apply for, police clearance.
Please contact our library assistant Chelsea Crutchley at cscrutchley@cbe.ab.ca
Safety Reminder – from Mrs. Chastko
Hidden Valley school staff are committed to the safety of students and their families as they head to and from school. We continue to see unsafe practices, such as jaywalking and U-turns in the playground zone in front of our school. CPS Traffic Safety Unit and Bylaw Officers have been out a few times this year. Staff are now redeployed to ensure there is additional supervision during drop-off and dismissal. I’ve asked my staff to address any safety concerns witnessed with individuals. Unfortunately, these reminders are not always well-received.
It is important to remember that, while we do not enforce traffic safety, we must do whatever we can to ensure ALL students and their families are safe when they travel to and from school. For this reason, we will continue to provide these reminders and will not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour towards school staff.

I am also working with Valley Creek School and the Student Safety Travel Advisory Group, who partner with the city and CPS. This group reviews the overall safety of the street outside of our school and determines if there are any adjustments required. I will continue to work with groups to request their support, as well as continue to engage with our families around these unsafe practices. I would also request you share your concerns regarding traffic safety, as is described here:

Complaints, where a specific violator or license number can be identified, should be referred to the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 for appropriate dispatch response. What if people are constantly speeding in our community? You can complete a TSR online or call the TSR line at 403-567-4029.
Pumpkin Patch Walk: Families are invited to bring their carved pumpkins to school on Tuesday, October 31 to be added to a pumpkin patch. Students and their families will have the opportunity to walk through the pumpkin patch and enjoy the wonderful pumpkin carving and decorations. Please consider participating. We are looking for volunteers to help set up this event. Please sign up using the link below:

Remembrance Day Ceremony: Our ceremony will be on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. To acknowledge Hidden Valley School family members who have or are presently serving in the military or are service members, we will share a slide show with the pictures of our HVS student/staff and their family members.  Please send pictures to Mrs. Chastko at mjchastko@cbe.ab.ca along with the name of the family members, when and how they served.
